D-Day for Booker's indie campaign

Published:  03 January, 2012

Booker is launching a campaign that aims to draw 2 million extra shoppers to independent retailers.

The campaign is called D-Day, and kicks off on January 16 with a series of customer conferences held in Booker branches.

For a week starting on January 16, a second week from February 6 and a third from March 12, every Booker branch will host two presentations a day, at 10am and 2pm.

Retailers will be able to pick up a guide called Five Steps to Great Retailing, designed to help them give their shoppers a great shopping experience, at the events.

Retail sales director Steve Fox said: “D-Day is the biggest opportunity since the national lottery. We estimate that an extra 2 million shoppers each week could transfer to independent retailers, bringing with them an extra £1 billion of sales.

“This could result in £140 million in extra profits for small stores. The Five Steps to Great Retailing guide is intended for retailers to walk their store to help them understand what opportunities exist and how they can take advantage of it. I would strongly encourage independent retailers to go to one of these conferences. Everyone is welcome and can contact their local Booker branch for more details.”
