Fake alcohol warning in Essex

Published:  15 December, 2011

Fake alcohol in Essex has prompted a warning from Trading Standards officers in the county.

Counterfeit bottles of Glen’s vodka have been seized, and there is also concern about bottles labelled as Drop and Arctic Ice vodka which are labelled incorrectly and do not contain enough alcohol to be classified as vodka.

Trading Standards is urging businesses and the public to avoid people selling alcohol from vans.

Councillor Roger Walters said: “At this time of year, many residents look forward to a break over Christmas and having a drink or two. When purchasing alcohol, make sure that it is from a reputable source. A cheap deal that seems too good to be true often is and in this case it could have dangerous effects on your health.”
