Free Run Wines launches Rueda range

Published:  24 October, 2011

Free Run Wines and Felix Solis Avantis have launched a range of Spanish whites from Rueda.

Blume was originally developed for the domestic market, where it has become the top off-trade brand from Rueda. It has also done well in the German on-trade.

The range comprises three wines – a traditional Rueda blend, with proportions of Verdejo, Viura and Sauvignon Blanc varying from vintage to vintage, a varietal Sauvignon Blanc and a varietal Verdejo.

Marketing manager Rachel Robinson said: “Consumer demand for fresher, lighter styles of white wine is driving interest in aromatic varietals in the UK, as demonstrated by the phenomenal growth of Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc.

“We’re now at a crossroads where many of these consumers are looking around for something new, but still with a similar taste profile. The Blume range is well-positioned to capitalise on these trends, with a brand that has been specifically designed to appeal to female consumers, with wines including a classic Rueda blend as well as international varietals like Sauvignon Blanc.”

Blume is to launch in Budgens in November.
