Sheffield wine merchant Michael Menzel has died aged 70, after a battle with cancer.

The German entrepreneur arrived in the city in the early 80s to establish its first specialist wine shop. The original premises stood on Nether Green but later relocated to Eccleshall Road. The retail business was later sold and rebranded as a Bottoms Up store but Menzel enjoyed success with a wine bar.

His funeral takes place tomorrow (Friday, Sepetmber 23) at Mother of God Roman Catholic Church on Abbeydale Road, Sheffield, at 10.30am.
