HMRC offers help to riot victims

Published:  11 August, 2011

HM Revenue & Customs says it will be flexible on tax payments for businesses facing short-term financial difficulty because of this week’s riots.

It also said that it will discuss practical solutions for businesses that cannot meet their obligations to HMRC because their records have been lost or damaged in the disorder.

HMRC will review any penalties imposed and review additional surcharges that would normally be triggered by missed deadlines.

It has issued a helpline number for businesses whose financial position has been hit by the riots on 0845 366 1207.
