Football effect knocks AB Inbev volumes

Published:  11 August, 2011

AB Inbev saw its UK beer volumes drop 16% in the second quarter of 2011. The fall reflects a spike in sales in the comparable period last year caused by the football World Cup, of which the company’s Budweiser brand was a main sponsor.

Own-beer volumes were down 10.4% in the first half of the year against growth of 11.4% in the first six months of 2010.

The company saw overall revenue growth of 4.6% in the first-half with total beer volumes flat.

A-B Inbev acclaimed the launch of Stella Artois Cidre in the UK which it said was "helping to build core brand health for the Stella Artois mega brand".
