'EFB buys 37 Oddbins stores' – reports

Published:  26 April, 2011

There are unconfirmed reports that 37 Oddbins stores have been bought by European Food Brokers, the Midlands-based owner of the Whittalls Wines chain, for around £4 million.

It is also reported that the Oddbins name has been sold as part of the deal, though this is again unconfirmed.

Administrator Deloitte declined to comment when approached by OLN, but said that a statement on developments in the sell-off of stores was being prepared for later this afternoon.

EFB was set-up by Raj Chatha in 1991 and bought 109 shops form the failed Wine Cellar chain in 2009. It now operates stores as Whittalls, Booze Buster and Simply Drinks.

An attempt to expand the estate by buying shops form the defunct First Quench chain failed later that year.
