Scotch distillers unite for Japan

Published:  04 April, 2011

A Group of seven Scotch whisky distillers have come together to produce a Scotch to raise money for disaster relief in Japan.

Arran, Benriach, Bladnoch, Glendronnach, Mitchell’s Glengyle, Kilchoman and Springbank have each donated a cask of single malt to be blended into the limited edition Spirit of Unity whisky.

There will be a production run of 2,000 bottles, 1,200 of which will be sold in the UK.

The bulk of the remainder will be shipped for sale in Japan, with some being donated for sale in New Zealand to raise money for the Christchurch earthquake relief fund.

The idea came from Euan Mitchell, managing director of Isle of Arran Distillers.

“Many in our industry travel regularly to Japan and have made friends and contacts with Japanese whisky enthusiasts," he said.

“On seeing the scale and horror of the problems we were moved to help and other craft distillers immediately came on board.”

The whisky will sell for £59 with stocks dispatched by the end of April.
