Brewer encourages greater scrutiny

Published: 8th July 2010

Written by: OLN News Team

SABMiller is calling on brewers to be more open about the environmental and social impact of their operations around the world.

The Pilsner Urquell and Peroni producer has published an online guide to its own activities.

It shows which of its businesses are “performing well” but also where improvement is needed across SABMiller’s 10 sustainable development priorities. These include improving water efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, discouraging irresponsible drinking and contributing to the reduction of HIV/Aids.

Andy Wales, SABMiller’s global head of sustainable development, said: “We cannot simply celebrate the success stories; we also need to be honest about areas of weakness. This interactive tool lets consumers, employees, partners and communities see how we are doing in those areas which matter most to them.”
