New convenience show for trade

Published: 23rd June 2010

Written by: Nicola Collenette

Publisher of OLN William Reed Business Media is replacing the Convenience Retailing Show with a new National Convenience Show next year.

The three-day event, from February 27 to March 1 at Birmingham NEC, will be positioned alongside the annual Association of Convenience Stores’ Summit and The Grocer Lunch, held annually to announce and celebrate leading independent retailers and wholesalers.

The publisher said it will provide a “unique focal point” for the whole industry.

“We think it’s time to put the ‘convenient’ into convenience events with a single, national event that is as hard-working and flexible as our retailers are and which delivers the same convenience and choice that their stores do,” said Andrew Reed, managing director, events and exhibitions.

“Holding ACS Summit at National Convenience Show will help bring our unique event to a wider audience,” said James Lowman, chief executive of the Association of Convenience Stores. “By linking with NCS we are also allowing our members to take part in a number of events in the same location to make the best use of their time.”

Next year’s National Convenience Show will introduce new innovations in 2011, including an advice centre, where visitors to the show can pre-book 20-minute slots with convenience retail experts on issues like merchandising, product availability and value for money.

Also central to the new show will be a live tasting theatre, with daily practical demonstrations and tasting sessions.
